Different types of learning Styles

To understand how to move from passive to active learning, it is impor-tant to understand the different types of learners. There are four primary learning styles: visual, auditory, read-write, and kinesthetic. People learn using a variety of these methods, but one method is usually predominant. Familiarity with the characteristics of each learning style and associated strategies allows you to address the needs of each type of learner.




Auditory learners-

  •  enjoy reading and being read to.
  •  be able to verbally explain concepts and scenarios.
  •  like music and hum to themselves.
  •  enjoy both talking and listening.


Visual learners -

  •     have good spelling, note-taking, and organizational skills.
  •     notice details and prefer neatness.
  •     learn more if illustrations and charts accompany reading.
  •     prefer quiet, serene surroundings.


Kinesthetic learners-   

  •     be demonstrative, animated, and outgoing.
  •     enjoy physical movement and manipulatives.
  •     be willing to try new things.
  •     be messy in habits and surroundings.


Tactile learners -    

  •     prefer manipulative when being introduced to a topic.
  •     literally translate events and phenomena.
  •     tolerate clutter.
  •     be artistic in nature.
