How do you decide who to follow on Twitter?

How do you decide how to follow on Twitter?

The answer to that question is probably on the same lines as Cadbury Creme Egg's "How do you eat yours".

It's all personal preference really and there's no hard and fast rules.  I was once told that everyone on social networks are "suspects" and you have to do your detective work to find out which of these are the ones you want to follow.

People seem to go through a process.  Here's a few questions I seem to ask myself.

  • What is their username?
  • What does their profile and photo say about them?
  • Looking at their last few tweets, what are the subjects they seem to talk about?
  • Am I interested in those topics in anyway and are they worth having on my timeline?
  • If I were to read a tweet on my timeline from them, would I find it 1) Interesting, 2) Relevant, 3) Entertaining 4) All three!

Remember though, people looking at your profile and deciding whether to follow you will also be judging you based on who you follow so take care to make sure that your own personal ethics are satisfied when choosing to follow someone else!

Hope this helps
