The Trade Union Congress (TUC) is urging employers to make equality training madatory to be provided by all employers following shocking figures revelealed in research reported on by People Management today. The survey of more than 5,000 LGBT people reveals that more than 36 percent have been bullied or harrassed at work. The report also reveals that a just 12% of those who had experienced harrassment or bullying raised the issue with their HR department. Of those that had reported an issue, only a third felt it had been properly resolved.
Dr Jill Miller, Diversity and Inclusion Adviser at the CIPD desribed the figures as shocking and wholly unacceptable in 2017. The report by People Management includes a number of comments from respondents on homophobic situations they had faced as well as stories where HR departments had failed to act accordingly. It is therefore without surprise that the TUC has made the call for employers to make equality training madatory.
