With CPD a continual focus, I am aware of a sea of changes in my personal and professional growth which have been reflected both in established and developing relationships.  I believe this to be very positive as it has empowered me to have the confidence to embrace change, reflect and allow myself to develop without constraint.  As I reflect on this shift I am fascinated by how my learning and professional practice has had such a significant impact in all areas of my life.

    Hi Louise,

Is it being in HR that has empowered you, being on a course or by keeping your CPD portfolio and reflecting upon your progress? Or the combination of these things?

Is it a result of making best use of the 70:20:10 adult learning environment? Charles Jennings 70:20:10 Forum

Whatever it is, it's great that it is working for you and best of all that you are enjoying it!

  • Hi Louise,

Its great to hear that being in HR has had such a positive impact on you because I'm only just starting my HR journey!

I'm on my Level 3 HRP and I can already see some positive impact on my professional life. I work in retail and have been with the same company for 10 years this year and I know that I had become quite demotivated and slightly jaded. I decided to look at HR careers because I enjoyed the training element of my job but I think I had quite an 'in the trenches' view of Human Resources- its was office people dictating targets and policies who had no idea how things worked at store level- like Generals far from the front line action.

But doing this course has caused me already to re-address my thinking and realise how much 'Human Resource' is involved at my level, how much I can already do and how much it is about learning how to manage people- something I feel my company hasn't done. I actually found this hugely motivating and took a new look at my current role and how I can improve things within my store and how I interact with staff and management.

So, to answer your question I think starting in Human Resources has changed how I view my professional life but also brought back my motivation and engagement which I had lost!

  • Interesting question Louise. I totally agree that a lot of the things I have been learning in my work environment I've been able to apply into other areas of my life.  So in some respects yes being in HR has changed me and the way I think and approach things. However, on the other hand I could easily argue that actually I already had this within me but this job has just raised my self awareness and harnessed my capabilites that I hadn't needed to use in other jobs...

Has there been anything in particular that has resonated with you? Has anyone else noticed a change in you?

    Jill
