Hi all,
When you have a new employee who has some holiday booked in advance, do you honour them even though the timing is not ideal for the company?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Sarah

Thank you so much to all of you for your replies. Very useful and in line with my thinking.
When I'm involved in interviews, I would normally clarify this at the interview. Again I hope this is helpful.
Hi Sarah,
Yes, I would find out during the interview stage if any holidays were booked and would honour them.
Hope that helps.

Hi Sarah,
As long as the employee advised us at the interview stage or before they started we would honour it.
I agree with Emily and Sarah it does set the right tone for the future.
Hope this helps

Hello,
Yes we always honour previously booked holidays. We tend to ask at the end of an interview whether the candidate has any holidays booked in the near-future. This then allows us to forward plan and adapt if the timing isn't ideal for the department. I agree with Sarah, you need to set the right tone and want new employees to be motivated.
Emily.

Yes I would and I had this recently in my own business when a new employee had booked some time off during the week when I was also off which was far from ideal. In the interest of good employee relations and setting the right tone I decided I would honour their pre-booked holidays as The employee did advise me of this when they started.<br />

Hope this helps all the best Sarah
