HR Software

Hi Everyone.

This is my first ever post, so please be kind :)

My task within my new role is to look at different HR software packages and see what is best for the company I work for.

We are a small business with 25 employees but rapidly growing and have now got to the size where we require a fully functional HR software.

We require the usual's, Talent Management/ Reviews, HR tools (holiday, sick, grievance, attendance etc), HR analytics, Learning & Development/ CPD, training logs, stored documents and target tracking tools-  but the one specific thing we require is a programme that can provide an employee 'timeline' or snapshot (similar to social media timeline, for example) of their time in the company so we can see trends. For example, where we recently have had a disciplinary within the business, we want to be able to log that on a timeline, and then see if that happening has had an impact other members of the team.

I understand we can gain this information from various reports we can run from the software but I'm just trying to find if anyone uses a programme that can provide these items we require?

Thank you all in advance

Faye

  • Hi Faye

I help companies select HR software. Without wanting to burst your bubble you might struggle to find one system that will cover all of the above (Within a sensible price anyway). Not many have a timeline but I'd suggest taking a look at Fairsail, PeopleHR, CharlieHR (which is free), Cascade to get you started (and BreatheHR as already mentioned). CascadeGo has a nice look and feel and NaturalHR is becoming more popular. There is a new product coming to market next year, my people manager, which heavily focuses on analytics which may suit your needs (waiting to get a demo myself).

Feel free to get in contact to sense check anything. It's a bit of a mine field dealing with all the sales people!
  • Hi Faye,

I  have been using BreatheHR for a couple of months now, and highly recommend it for what you describe.  I was demonstrating it to another local organisation earlier this week and in doing so, stumbled on the timeline trends for individuals that you mention - really enlightening!

You can trial it free for 14 days and it's very reasonably priced, especially for smaller organisations and Charities.  Have a chat with them - you won't be disappointed.  By the way, the other organisation I demonstrated to - they signed up to it the very next day.

    Regards

  • Hi Faye

I'm no expert but I went to the CIPD Learning tech conference earlier in the year and was blown away by the development of HR software and the amount of options to choose from. I would highly recommend going.

What I did take away from the conference was the amount of cloud based software which, whilst there are mix feelings due to security, are great for growing businesses as many of the elements are modular so you can add on as you expand and it can be accessed anywhere with often smaller implementation costs and you'll receive regular system developments and updates. One was called The Access Group and whilst this wasn't what I was looking for, I was very interested nonetheless and we actually ran with their Absence Management module called TeamSeer which we thought was fantastic and something I'd try and implement anywhere I go if they didn't have an absence management system in place. By changing the culture and making employees and managers more aware of absence meant that it was more accurately recorded and the amount of money we saved on sickness and holiday payouts paid for the cost of the system. I would recommend looking at their solution though not sure if they will capture quite the element you are after and can't speak for the rest of their software!

    I hope this helps!

  • Hi Faye - the 2016/17 focus seems to been software and analytics!! so you are not alone.

Make sure that you get your business requirements very early in the project and whilst it is appealing to go to one of the larger systems providers, the systems, data, functionality become very standard and do not offer the flexibility that an up and coming business may need.

P.s. make sure you take into consideration any payroll requirements, this will become a big headache later down the line!

    thanks

  • Hi Faye,

Don't worry no one bites in this community - the intention is to help and support where ever possible so thanks for posting :-)

There have been a couple of related discussions/questions raised about HR Software in the past here, here and here - well worth having a look at any comments or experiences.

Hope this helps and let us now how you get on

  • Hi Faye!

I'm in the same situation actually... I've joined a company (in May) and we're now up to around 30 employees, so we're interested in implementing some HR software. I've tried to get Sage HR loaded onto our server so I can have a look and see what that's about, but with no such luck as yet unfortunately. I previously worked for a company of 6,000 and was part of the team working on the new HR system for the group. The new system implemented was via Northgate Arinso (NGA) and was named 'ResourceLink' but prior to this, we used Snowdrop (by Sage I believe) which did the job really well until we got into the 5000-6000 employee range, then it regularly 'fell over'.

I can't comment on the timeline element unfortuntately as I'm not sure, but both systems were good in general from my experience.  I'm not sure if these systems would be best suited for the larger company however, so I too would be interested in what people suggest for the 25-30 employee range...

    Thanks :)

    Adele
