HR System

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking for some inspiration - my company are about to implement a new HR system including employee self service for booking holidays, e payslips, submitting expenses...

Does anyone else use this sort of thing? If so, what do you call it in your organisations? We don't want to call it "HR System", we want something snappy that is going to encourage people to log on and use it! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Hi Amy

We used SAP for both payroll and HR but the original set up didn't have the self service system. However when we did implement this, we asked SAP to develop us an 'add-on' and this was called Netweaver - it went down well where I worked as the majority of staff were systems/IT people.  Others have recommended having a competition - involving the people who will be using the system is a good idea

  • Hi Amy

I've seen it called a number of things.  U-Access, <Company Name> Life, My Details, Coach Plaice (yes, spelt like the fish).  A competition is a great idea, and if you have no budget you can make a nice free logo in Canva for it.

Hope all goes well.  I'm an HR systems consultant so if you need any advice on which systems to take a look at let me know and I might be able to save you a little time.

  • Hi Amy,

It's good to hear that your company is taking an initiative to implement an HR System. I would like to share my experience of a similar HR system that I had used while I was working in my previous company. It was name as THE HUB. The main purpose of THE HUB was it made so much easier for the employees to record and view their personal details on timely basis. Also as an employee we had to feed in the day to day work that we had done into our profiles which was called time sheets and this was approved by our manager on daily basis. This software has helped in maintaining a better employer-employee relations.

I hope this helps you implement a better HR system.

    Thanks and warm regards,

  • Hi Amy

We use a system that's based on Microsoft SharePoint, and call it 'CCL Hub'. Self service for booking holidays, timesheets, expenses etc but has many more capabilities we are not using yet (you buy the program in 'Apps' so you start with just one or two Apps and build up to whatever it is you want to use). One of the benefits of a SharePoint system is you can use it for absolutely anything - the overall aim is to scrap on site servers and have everything on SharePoint that can then me shared with the global company. As long as you have the security and permissions set right, it is a very useful piece of software. We are a paperless office (as much as possible) so being able to stored all documents in one place is great.

My husbands' company also use iTrent from MidlandHR and I can agree with the earlier post that the self service aspect is great.

  • Hi Amy,

We use iTrent from MidlandHR, it has a good self service, booking holidays and learning events, sending payslips and you can set workflows easily which will save you so much time.

    hope it helps.

  • Hi Amy

Our company uses Sage for payroll and HR and with it we got the Self Service for staff to book holidays. Most use it with ease but we do get some sticklers for using the paper form but on the whole its cut my paperwork down in the office. Also we get a lot of staff locking themselves out or the password expiring and they cant get back in.

Great system but there are lots of elements and additional costs that arent always apparant at quote stage so would bare that in mind!

My last company used Pegasus Opera which was great for HR but you would have to check the self service element.

    Good Luck

  • Worth checking out the category for HR systems as there have been some discussion around this in the past

    Hope they help Amy :)

  • Hi Amy

Great post and thanks for asking I am sure there are lots of ideas out there.

In my last role when we launched our HR online system we actually ran a competition in the business and chose the best name and awarded a small prize.  It helped with raising awareness as part of the overall comms roll out plan and created a sense of anticipation.  Also I guess for the name chosen there was an element of buy in, you could try this on a team basis to introduce some competition?

Anyhow in the end we went with HR Self Serve for the on line system and for the Shared Services function we called it HR.One which I always had a little giggle at as many already know HR1 is the name of the form which you fill out for collective redundancies and send to DBERR!

Anyhow I hope this helps - there must be some great names out there so please do post!

    Regards

    Sarah
