Level 5 EL assignment help

Hi peopleThis is my first post and glad I came across this site!I am on my last and final assignment in EL and its stressing me out! There are six questions covered with a word count of 550-600 per topic and it nowhere near covers what I plan to include. For those if you that have completed this assignment, any key learnings worth sharing and how best did you structure the assignment inTerms of key info to include? Here are the questions asked.Explain the purpose of employment law and how it is enforced. Briefly describe the role played by the tribunal and courts system in enforcing employment law. Include how cases are settled before and during formal legal procedures.2. You are asked to develop a training session for line managers with the title ‘managing recruitment, selection and appointments lawfully’. Outline the key points you would include in your presentation and why. Provide an example to illustrate your key points.3. Your organisation is planning a major reorganisation that will involve relocating some people to other sites and outsourcing a major function to a sub-contractor. You should summarise the major ways the law protects employees in such situations.4. You are asked to summarise for managers the key issues they need to consider to manage pay, leave and working time lawfully. Ensure you include the major statutory rights, equal pay, and maternity, paternity and other family-friendly employment rights.5. An employee makes a formal complaint about serious bullying at work. He alleges it is due to his refusal to join a trade union. The bullying has been sufficiently severe to require the employee to seek medical help and is taking medication to help him recover. Explain the grounds and case this employee might be able to bring against the organisation.6. You work for a small organisation which has never had to take formal disciplinary action against an employee before. A long-standing employee is now suspected of coming to work while under the influence of illegal drugs. Summarise what steps need to be taken and why if the organisation is to minimise the chances of having to defend the case in an employment tribunal.ThanksHayley

  • Hi Hayley

Congratulations on your first post! and also on working your way through to your last assignment.  In terms of ELW submission the most successful assignments I see are where particpants have planned their wordcount i.e not utilised large amounts of this for the first couple of questions and then skimped on the final questions.  Also succinctness is your friend, you need to get to the point and only include content which contributes to answering the question.   In addition that it is underpinned with plenty of case law and also legislation (using the correct name and also ensuring that the date is included).

A good resource is your friend here and I always recommend Selwyn's Employment Law to my particpants make sure you get the most recent copy and if you have access to a library you will probably find a copy there.  That said I continued to use Selwyn during my entier HR career.  You may also have access to some useful resources such as XpertHR or PLC through your work perhaps?   ACAS can be a good source but I sometimes personally find this a little light on detail, and again personally I would not recommend gov.uk website as I have found this at times to be inaccurate and out of date.

Another good tip is to speak with HR people within your organisation as they would be able to give you a good insight how bullying complaints  and substance misuse issues are dealt with within the workplace.

It would be great of folks who have completed their ELW assignment could share with Hayley and others what worked well or not so well for them.

    I hope this helps!

    Sarah
