Morning all
Interesting to read about the approach taken by Ryanair recently and choosing to cancel flights as opposed to impacting their punctuality figures.

I think this will be the subject matter for a number of case studies over time.
So what if any are the underlying HR issues which may have contributed to this? If we think of Purcell's AMO model which many of you may be familiar with there are a number of factors which may have contributed to this.
Employee engagement?
Work life balance?
Reward?
What do you think are the key underlying HR related issues?
Interesting also to note that the latter is being thrown at the issue to alleviate the airline's woes by offering pilots up to $12,000 to cancel 5 - 10 days' leave, but also ties them in to October 2018 to receive the payment, and only if they also have less than 4 unauthorised absences over the remainder of the period. I read this with interest as I am not sure what this would do for my psychological contract? What do you think?
Please do share your thoughts.
Sarah

Ryan Air's actions seem unethical to me. The actions could also be a 'repudiatort 'breach contract.
