A builder's trowel, a plumber's spanner and lollipop lady's stick. These are the tools of the trade. You can't really imagine any of these doing a great job without them.

Some weeks ago, someone asked me what are the tools I can't live without in my role. A great question and one that I find myself coming back to on a fairly regular basis. It was only just February this year, when I was asking myself the same question. The interesting thing is, that over the years, this list for me has changed. As an example, email would have appeared fairly close to the top in the list of 'most needed'. Nowadays, it's found it's way onto the top of my 'most annoying tools that I'd be happy to live without from today' list. Not that my needs around sharing, communicating and collaborating have disappeared, no. In fact, those needs are even greater today than before. It's just that with new tools, technology, apps, websites etc emerging all the time, what we use today, might not be what we use tomorrow.

I'd be interested to hear what the tools are you can't live without in your role? Here's some of ours along with others in this People Management article: L&D: “The tools I can’t live without”
