Could your company take a voluntary L&D work experience placement?

I am looking for a placement from a one day placement up to one week as I am in a job currently and cannot afford to leave without a paid position to go to.

Hi!

I have been studying the Level 5 L&D course since March. I am an experienced trainer with a broad cross-section of skills, please see my CV for details. I currently work within the Youth and Community Work setting and am looking to switch career paths into L&D as L&D and organisational development are where I see my future.

If your company could support a voluntary placement please feel free to share my CV with relevant people who could help make this happen.

I look forward to hearing from you further.

Thank you in advance,

Val

  • Hi Val, I've just checked out your CV, but my workplace is in North Notts, so not very accessible for you.

Have you tried contacting your local CIPD branch for help?  Many offer local mentoring in addition to the national mentoring programme.  Attending training-related events that they schedule could also help raise your profile and boost local networking

    Worth a try

  • Val,

I just found this: Steps Ahead mentoring

  • Hi Val

In my experience the companies that would be ideal are the smaller companies with under 100 people who probably won't have an L&D person but would benefit most from having one.   There might be HR managers or office managers who would love support for 1 day a week.

Also worth researching HR consultants in your area who would like to expand their product offering or may have clients who would benefit from L&D expertise.

    Good luck,

    Blake

    • Hi Blake,

Thank you for your reply. I will take on board your feedback and look into this.

      Many thanks,

      Val

  • Val,

I am a bit confused. If you are a trainer and are studying the for the L5, are you not well qualified to land a paying position? I am switching careers as well and studying the L3. I am looking for work whilst still in the program.

    1. As an artist once told my wife, never sing for free.
    2. As Yoda might say: A L&D Business Partner see yourself. As a trainer use your experience. Confident you must be, on this all relies.
    • Hi Matthew,

I have applied for a number of positions so far but only to be told I don't have the experience others' have. I am continuing to apply for posts but think I could enhance my position by gaining some work experience in an L&D department.

      Thanks for your insight though.

      Val
