Hi, wondering if anyone can help.
I have a manager who is really rather senior but hasn't actually had any direct line management experience previously. This manager is struggling with delegation and with managing prickly characters / difficult conversations with subordinates and superiors.
Does anyone have any suggestions for tried and tested 1 or 2 day management courses which won't come across as belittling for someone senior?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Vicky,
Has the senior manager had feedback to this effect or have they put their hand up and asked for help?
Sounds like they would benefit from a mentor or a coach rather than a standard 1-2 day management course - is this a possibility?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the response. Yes, feedback given and acknowledged, help wanted. I love the mentoring / coaching idea, however, unfortunately the person with the budget doesn't! Like you I think this would be the way forward but we don't have the capacity internally and cost would prohibit external sources unfortunately.
Couple of things to take a look at

It's a good starting point :)
That's a shame :(
Sadly 'training' is often the first thought as something that will fix something but in reality when it comes to behavioural changes and increasing confidence and capability there are other more suitable options. I'm sure training will help but without on-going coaching and support it may well be a waste of budget if it's in isolation. Least it ticks a box though eh. I'll have a think about some other options though and hope other people might be able to bring some ideas a long.
