It's that time of year when, hopefully, some of you will get a chance to take a break from work. You may even get time to kick back with a good book. If so, what are you planning to read?

My feeling is that we should get stuck into a decent novel to help take our minds elsewhere (far away from work). I'm planning on doing that with parts two and three of the Hunger Games. I'm also planning on dipping into a couple of learning related books too, which I thought I'd share.

The first is The Numbers Game which looks at how data is being used to challenge the way we think about football. Why am I reading it? Because I coach an under-9s football team and am keen to challenge my thinking on the best ways to learn and play football.

The second is Make it Stick - the science of successful learning which looks like it does what it says on the tin - provide insights into how we actually learn. Why am I reading it? Because in my role as an L&D consultant I need to be on top of current thinking about how adults learn. It is at the heart of what L&D does.

So, that's me. How about you - what will you be reading this summer?

  • 2899030?profile=originalI was fascinated by the recent TV series on The Brain by David Eagleman. So I have bought the book to roll around with the ideas in a different way to seeing them on screen.

How we do who we are seems a useful thing to know, both to understand myself better, and hopefully relate to others better, and better understand how I can assist an enable them to be more of who they could be.

    Cheers, Paul
