I had no idea that HR open mic nights existed. Yet I attended one, and performed at it, this week.

Organised by Phil Wilcox, the night was in the upstairs of Rain Bar in the Deansgate area of Manchester. Naturally, the audience was largely HR professionals, and there were a lot of them! The audience was jovial, supportive, the atmosphere facilitated by beverages in hands.

Another premise of the evening was most noble. All proceeds raised went to the charity Retrak, who work to “…transform highly vulnerable children’s lives, preserve families, empower communities and give each of them a voice”. You can read about their work on their website https://www.retrak.org/.

The line-up was eclectic, with singers, stand-up comics and poets. A full band capped the evening, amongst the chatter. Everyone who performed was received very well – as someone who did, I can vouch for that.

The night was filmed by our own Ady Howes. Expect footage to emerge soon!
