Last year we interviewed the blog squad on the themes from the CIPD Conference - in the video below Gary Cookson talks about his experience.
The blog below the video is from Gary on what changes he has seen in the last 12 months and what he hopes to get from this years conference 'Embracing the New World of Work'
How much progress do you feel the industry has made with personalising the world of work as you suggested last year?
I feel we are certainly talking more about personalising the world of work, and the increase in technology and AI is helping us to think this through and opens up new possibilities. But it’s a long game and I haven’t seen lots of progress in one year, but then I wasn’t expecting too either.
What more can be done and how can HR achieve this?
We need to continue our work. There’s more technology and AI coming all the time and the world of work is changing. Demographic shifts are having a greater impact too. We need to be bold enough to start asking employees how we can structure work, and structure contracts, to get the best from them. I know how employers can get the best from me, but how often do we in HR ask others? Not often enough.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Embracing the New World of Work’ – What would you like to see and hear at the conference to support that?
I think the conference usually gets it about right and I’m expecting it to this year as well. I want to hear as much from practitioners who are pioneering new concepts of work as academics who are doing the research about it. I want to be able to network with and talk to other HR professionals about the future of work, and to speak to exhibitors who are offering something new that might catch my eye.
