Along with two of our facilitators, Helen Jeffrey and Lousie Hawkins, I had the pleasure of attending the CIPD's annual People Management Awards. Being there meant a lot to the three of us. For one, as Peter Cheese said as he opened the event, the HR industy is one for us to be proud of. The evening represents the best of the best and allows us all the chance to reflect on good stuff that happens and how we can replicate this to drive forward our own organisations.
The biggest reason the evening meant a lot to us is we were particularly proud of on the evening was two of our participants up for Michael Kelly student of the year awards. Mykela studied a Level 7 Advanced Qualification with us and out of 1,000's of students in the UK, was shortlisted for the award. Lil studied at Level 3 with DPG and not only got short listed for her achievements she only went and got herself a 'High Commendation' from the CIPD. Congratulations to you both and to you both Helen and Lousie for the way you supported and mentored them both throughout their qualification.
I'd love to get some discussion going around this and would love to hear your comments about awards. Before you look through the curated story of our night at #PMAs17 below, have a think to yourself and drop me a comment back....
- If your HR or L&D function was award winning, what would be your award?
- What does it take to be award winning in the 21st century HR and L&D profession?
- Has your HR or L&D team or those in it ever won award? What for?
- What awards do you aspire to win and how would you claim that number 1 spot?
These are great questions to get you thinking about shaping your HR and L&D teams and doing great things to drive your organisations forward.
So have a think and leave me your comments below.
In the meantime, have a look at the curated content in the 'Storify' below. Oh and by the way, if you're interested in learning how you too can curate content using Storify to help people learn, have a look at this video.

Proud to say that, in a way, we were part of one of the winning teams. The consultancy that we worked with to develop and describe our partnership project actually made the submission in the 'Best L&D/HR Consultancy’ category...and they won!
