Tools to help with CPD

In my post A Blog about Blogs (Part One) I focussed on getting the most from blogs and using a RSS Reader to save you time and effort in finding great content. I was also able to share some blogs that I have and continue to benefit from and will continue to add to this list and I hope you do the same.

The key point around using blogs for personal development is that it’s something that you can control and do every day for FREE. Getting in to the habit of reading a blog every day is something that can take a few weeks but by making it part of your professional development you will feel the benefits as they will provide fresh thinking, ideas and motivation. The practice of reflection is also a key component of development as we learn through our experiences working out what's gone well and what we can improve on.

Reading blogs contribute to CPD evidence but it’s sometimes difficult to capture this as evidence as it falls in the informal learning category so most often doesn’t get recorded and gets dismissed as evidence. Joss Anderson shares fantastic hints and tips around CPD that is a must read in Pain-Free CPD and to continue building on that post here are some tools that can also help you keep track, save and record the blogs you read or in deed any content to come across on the web to read and access on  variety of devices to suit your hectic lifestyle:

These tools allow you to save content of interest from a variety of sources and add your own comments and thoughts giving you the ability to create interesting, colourful and often creative works of art.

It’s time to make gathering evidence fun and interesting; let us know if you start to use any of these tools in the comments below.

If you know any other tools that can be used we’d love to hear about them.

  • I plan on using Evernote

  • Hi, I plan on using OneNote - it's a great tool for capturing data quickly, which can be easily accessed and references to site/pages are also stored.

    Thanks.

    • Ah I see you've found this already - good stuff and good tip on OneNote

  • Hi Mike

Thanks for posting I know that many struggle to complete their CPD record at the end of the course so anything to help with managing and completing this in a timely manner will be a great help! All the best Sarah
  • You learn something new everyday. Never knew of these Apps but have downloaded one now :)

    • Glad you found this useful Skeetika - let us know if any of the tools help with your CPD :)

    A link always helps

  • Not sure whether these are good examples but I think it shows how Vlogging is done (or some sort of vlog anyway) some are a bit crazy.

I'd go for a much more refined approach and use YouTube to host my reflective vlogs and upload them as unlisted or private so they are just mine

  • Has anyone ever tried vlogging, I'm curious but thinking it might end up like one of those embarrassing things you do as a child. You know when you decide to make a 'radio show' with your best mate :) Or it could be cool like in Avatar? Do you know some good examples?
