Does working out loud improve engagement?

I'm a fond fan of working out loud and have learned lots about that particularly through the last twelve months. If you don't know what this is, this video by John Stepper will help.

In the spirit of working out loud, let me tell you what I'm thinking on the subject at the moment. I'm wondering how working out loud links into employee engagement. Recently, in the team that I work here at DPG we've done some great design work particularly in our Level 3 CIPD Diploma in Learning and Development Programme. Without blowing our trumpet too much, we've done a great job. There's some good interaction in our online learning, great videos and engaging animations. There's a whole new look and feel. We've also done some great things with our case study characters that appear throughout the online learning interacting with those on the programme. Then there's the development we've done on the face to face workshop experience too and how it all blends together to be a great learning journey.

But, it's no good keeping all this within our own team. Our programme advisers need to know about the improvements we've made to our products just as our facilitators do who are supporting learners on our programmes. So more recently, our team have done some working out loud activities to share these developments internally in a digital way. We're getting great feedback internally and people are really engaged and excited in these new programmes. So clearly there must be a link between sharing and working out loud and engagement.

This makes sense to me. Our loyalties tend to lie with the organisation that pay our bills and supports our families and people do seem to be motivated by knowing that the organisation they are working for is successful. I'm wondering what you think? Does your organisation work out loud and share things across teams? Do you tend to find this motivates your people? I'm interested to know.
