Desk exercises to do at the office

This week's pick of the week on the Employee Engagement zone has really caught my eye. And personally relevant too. Whatever the reason; slept funny, twisted awkwardly, not looking after myself at the desk or old injury I don't know. But what I do know is my back has been giving me some jip this week. So tuning into the community and seeing a video on desk exercises you can do to look after yourself at work has been of use to me.  I'll be trying some of these out. Who knows, I might even post a photo or two of desk exercises! Would love to see yours too.

A worthwhile one, not just for us in our HR and L&D roles, but what about our teams. Are they looking after themselves at their desks? Would they find this useful too?

If you haven't seen the pick of the week, I've posted it below. Would love to read your comments back too!

  • Thanks for highlighting this, some great exercises and I'll be trying some. There is just one where I could see myself toppling over backwards! I started with back trouble a few years ago, despite being pretty fit and active. The worse culprit for me was sitting down (due to disc degeneration). I now avoid sitting down for long periods and have a sit/stand desk so I can switch 'mode'. I also take regular breaks to stretch. My back gives me much less trouble now and there is plenty of research to suggest that sitting down for long periods is not good for us, regardless of our physiology. So well worth sharing, thanks and I'm sure people working in offices could use this - I can do my stretching exercises with the cat, although I suspect the cat will win on the flexibility front! Hope your back improves soon.
