Analytics can no longer be called a fringe topic of special interest. Proficiency and competence in using people data and deriving insights from it is an essential part of your practice as an HR professional. Through the deployment of insights from people data, you can act as an effective strategic partner to the business and improve the impact of HR with evidence-based solutions and recommendations.
That said, for many HR practitioners especially those with responsibility for delivering regular reporting to the business, the amount of time they spend on analytics will be limited or could be of greater impact. The foundations of an effective people analytics function are detailed and accessible data, the capability to manipulate and draw insights from it, having the time and resource to explore potential avenues of interest and to tell stories effectively with that insight. With these in place, the people analytics function will be seen as a strategic partner with evidence-based insights to influence decision making in the business.
