Today, BBC news gives us further interesting reading on the subject of gender pay gaps as 500+ organisations reveal their gender pay gap figures ahead of the April deadline.

An element I found interesting is that Ladbrokes, Easyjet and Virgin all said that "men and women are paid equally when in the same role". Therefore they are saying that there is 'equal pay'  - making the distinction that the 'gender pay gap' is due to low numbers of women in senior roles.

Is that true in your experience or is this a simplistic - or even convenient - stance?

In the article there is a link to 'Important moments in the fight for equal pay'. This might be useful for those of you studying the subject and, in any case, it is an interesting read. Who doesn't like history?

  • Interestingly, despite the above article coming from the BBC, Sky news today describes that a top BBC journalist quit her role having discovered male counterparts were paid up to 50% more.
