Hi everyone,

I wanted to draw your attention to a podcast called Emotion At Work. Here is the link to the website

It is hosted by self-confessed emotion geek Phil Wilcox who works as an associate with DPG and facilitates Kirkpatrick Evaluation Programmes. Phil also runs his own consultancy business and offers a really unique blend of L&D and commercial experience. Phil's passion and interest in emotion is clear with him recently completing a MSc in Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis. The way in which he sees the role of emotion in the workplace translates in to how he approaches his work and has been the driving force behind the Emotion At Work podcast.

Phil has just completed his 10th podcast and has invited a wide variety of guests & leading experts to talk about a range of subjects linked to emotion. Topics covered include:

Burnout and coping mechanisms

Purpose and meaningful work

Negotiating identity and conversation

Vulnerability and leadership

Neuroscience

Emotion in every day work

Having listened to all of the podcasts since it started in May I would encourage anyone who works with people to make this a regular listen. The conversations are insightful with interesting and diverse topics being covered in each episode.

You can access the podcasts here http://emotionatwork.podbean.com/

Give them a listen, subscribe and let us know in comments what sort of things stand out or what you learn that didn't know before!

About the book

Why does HR need to be "brain-savvy"?

As HR professionals we spend a lot of time carefully planning our processes and policies. But when we crunch the numbers we're not being as effective as we should be.

* people keep on doing what they were doing
* reward systems aren't providing the motivation we'd expect
* everyone's busy but they're not being truly creative
* we don't have a pipeline of talent for our top jobs

We're not being brain-savvy. We need to understand our brains, as well as use them. The latest findings from neuroscience show us how to work with the way that brains have developed, in order to:

*        create fulfilment
*        make good decisions
*        change habits
*        achieve goals and
*        train good leaders

This book uses neuroscience to help you define the guiding sense of purpose that's a key feature of effective HR leadership. It shows how the latest research can improve your daily policies and practice. And gives you the insight and tools to maximise your own performance. With case studies from organisations that have been using neuroscience to solve their business problems.
