As part of this initiative, we will be welcoming STEM work experience placements from next year.

Does anyone have a work experience policy and/or procedure that they have embedded within their business that they would be happy to share with me?

I want to make sure that we have a compliant policy in place before we allow work experience candidates to join come into the business.

Any examples would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks is advance.

Pre-agreed Holiday prior to Starting Work - does it come out of an employee's leave entitlement?https://community.dpgplc.co.uk/human-resources/pre-agreed-holiday-prior-to-starting-work-does-it-come-out-of-an-2019-02-13T12:05:58.000Z2019-02-13T12:05:58.000ZSophie Gibbinhttps://community.dpgplc.co.uk/members/SophieGibbin

Hi all,

I have just started in my new HR role and one question i've been asked is an employee query with regards to holiday that was pre-agreed before joining the company. the Employee seems to think this shouldn't come out of their annual holiday entitlement.

My natural reaction is that it should; the company may accommodate the dates that have already been agreed however since joining the company you are entitled to a certain number of days leave per year which will be pro-rated from the employee's start date. The pre-agreed holiday should therefore be taken out of the employee's annual entitlement.

The employee is complaining and has claimed there is a 'rule' which dictates any pre-agreed holiday prior to starting a new role should be given as additional leave and should not be taken out of their annual entitlement. I have looked but cannot find anything on this 'rule'. Is anyone else aware of this and would you agree with my opinion above?

Thanks so much!

Sophie

Apprenticeship Policieshttps://community.dpgplc.co.uk/human-resources/apprenticeship-policies2016-01-07T13:22:09.000Z2016-01-07T13:22:09.000ZMark Tallanthttps://community.dpgplc.co.uk/members/MarkTallant

Hello everyone,

I hope you are well.

I am currently looking ay apprenticeship policies and wondered whether any of you had a policy at your organisation. It is an environment where there is the potential for harm to employees and others due to heavy machinery etc if an employee attends unfit for work. It is a small firm with approx. 30 employees and non-unionised.

Could I ask how you have approached this in your organisations:

Do you use for cause testing or random testing? What were the considerations when deciding which to use?

What challenges did you face when introducing the policy?

What worked well and not so well?

What are the pitfalls to look out for?

It would be great to hear how this has been approached in other workplaces.

Regards

Sarah

Sickness and Absenteeism Policyhttps://community.dpgplc.co.uk/human-resources/sickness-and-absenteeism-policy2015-03-24T08:54:11.000Z2015-03-24T08:54:11.000ZGordon Westhttps://community.dpgplc.co.uk/members/GordonWest

Any suggestions?

My employer has a sickness and absenteeism policy that does not link periods of absence to potential disciplinary action.

Speaking to group members, this is unusual. Could the community please give me some ideas on how you have achieved this, e.g. how many days sickness is permitted before disciplinary policy kicks in.

Examples of policies would be very useful to help me understand the wording of your policies.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Regards

Gordon
