HR Software

I am battling with databases for accurate data analysis and would like to invest in HR Software to reduce the admin time invested in this tortuous process!  I have booked tickets for myself and the 'money man' to attend the HR Software show but would appreciate any useful nuggets of information, particularly if you are currently using excellent HR software ... or software to avoid!!

  • Hi Louise,  are you looking for a core system/HCM or more of a case management tool?

    • Hi Duncan

I am weighing up the options of both at the moment and would appreciate any advice about the advantages/disadvantages.

Background info:  I work for three separate schools and need to be able to provide relevant data analysis to three sets of Governors/Head Teachers and the database I use will only allow basic retrieval which requires a lot of manual tweaking to make it meaningful.  I would like a system that I can build up the functionality to include Performance Management/Recruitment etc.

So any advice would be gratefully received!

      Thanks

      • Hi Louise,

The organisation I work for purchased a license for a HCM called Workday a couple of years ago.  It's a US based company, set up by someone from PeopleSoft which is probably better known in this country.

I am not an HR systems expert but have been working on the training to enable people across a range of roles use it since it went live so have gained some insights.

One great thing about it is the self service capability.  People managers and employees have their own accounts and take ownership of their personal data etc.  This really helps remove inefficient admin work from the organisation.  MI wise, it is great, the number of different reports it can run is vast and all within 2 or 3 mouse clicks.  It does host performance management processes (and talent too) and it's amazing how all those paper personnel files with reams of review docs can suddenly become a thing of the past.  I don't find it quite as intuitive as the makers claim, but they do take customer feedback and improve the system when on regular cycles so this has and will continue improve.  We don't use it for recruitment but it does have this functionality available.  It's definitely worth a look if you get the chance.  Cost wise, I don't have any insights into it so not sure what the return on investment would be for you given number of employees.  If it's something that you are going to look into though do keep in mind that certain things will need to be configured and that's a bit of a specialist area where you might end up having to hire some expertise to help.  I guess if you really like the look of it, you could reach out to other schools to see if they want to form a bit of a pool!

My knowledge of case management systems tells me that they are more about logging queries and also things like grievances etc.  Not something that will support performance management, end to end recruitment etc.

Hope this helps!  Let me know if there's any other info you need.

        Duncan

        • Thanks Duncan that has really helped me to hone my thoughts and will guide my research into what will be a significant investment.

I will definitely research this system!

          Thanks again ...

          Have a good weekend!

          Louise
