HR System and Processes

Hi All,

As part of our organisation's committment to a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which will include functionality to support the complete HR/Payroll function and processes, I am leading up the specification for Employee Services (effectively EVERY interaction employee data will have in the lifecycle of an employee) as part of involvement in project working groups.

I can see that there are a few posts about HR systems and what people use, so my question is more about;

  • Does anyone have experiences (good or bad) of HR being part of an ERP system (e.g. SAP, Oracle etc)?
  • What level of process change was necessary to migrate from the old system (e.g. was the system written to match current policy/process or did the policies/processes change due to what was bought!?)

I think that there are definite efficiencies in having clean inputs, workflows and outputs from the HR system that get rid of as much waste as possible (double entry, unneccessary approval/audit steps etc) and I will be asserting the need to review processes to get the best out of the "system" that ensures we continue to adhere to legislation and statutory obligations.

Keep to hear any opinions.

Regards.

Gary.

  • Hi Gary, I have only little expeirence in this, our organization was new, and we were adding new systems every year, like SAP Blueprint, new payroll system etc. In most cases we had to change our processes significantly. It was really challenging and took lots of time. Hope it helps :-)

    • Hi Olga,

Thanks for the opinion - it is useful to hear that new systems are often a driver for a "refresh" of policy and procedures, often eliminating waste.

It will be a busy 18 months preparing for the system, reviewing policy and making sure the workflow meets organisational and legislative requirements.

      Regards.

      Gary.

      • Good luck :-)))

  • Hi Gary

Sorry you have not had a reply to your post yet, I am not able to help on this one as HR systems is definitely a development area for me! Although we did introduce SAP HR in my last role, which was challenging and we did not amend our policies to work around SAP.

Is there anyone lurking out there that can help Gary!

    Regards

    Sarah
