Mental Health Awareness

Hi Everyone,

Just after some advice/feedback, within my organisation we really want to get our employees talking about mental health as this is still very much a taboo subject. We have initiated a new HR zone, for where we want to encourage our employees to speak to a designated/trained member of staff if they are suffering with their mental health.

To give this a good boost from the start we want to kick start with a mental health week and I am after suggestions of what we can do, big or little, there are approx 200 employees within our organisation. Anything visual, uplifting or even motivational.

All suggestions will be welcomed :)

Thank you!

  • Hi Paula

Sounds fantastic, here is an idea that was used at a business I worked in.

It worked really well in terms of engaging employees.

Good luck with the initative, have you also thought of using Mental Health First Aid training to raise awareness?

  • Hi Paula,

I have attended a great one day "Mental Health Awareness" course yesterday provided by "Mind". Here is the link https://www.mind.org.uk/

I would highly recommend the course as our managers, who also attended the course, find it very helpful.

You can also have a look at their Information& Support section, which has a lot useful information.

    Best wishes,

    Vaida

  • Hi Paula,

I once saw a video by Phil Willcox who is an expert on the topic of emotion in the workplace. On this video (and actually the longer one that you can sign up free to watch) I believe there is a key to the approach every organisation should be taking when it comes to mental health well being.

You can watch the video here.

  • Hi Paula,

This is on my agenda (a similar sized organisation) so I am definitely following this topic.

One thing that has helped, although it may seem small but putting up awareness posters in the toilets has been a first step for us.

We know that sometimes staff may go there to take a private breather when feeling stressed so having the time to talk posters up and even positive sayings has really helped to remind people to reach out.
