Hello Everyone,
Currently I am within my final stages of the HRM CIPD Level 5 Apprenticeship, Understanding Organisational Development (UOD), and was hoping that some of you could assist with a little question I have?!
For those of you that are involved or work within OD, I am very interested in your thoughts on:
- What you think are the top three roles in OD and why; and
- What skills and competencies do you think are required.
Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts, and look forward to reading through them.
Best wishes
Jeni

Hi Jeni,
Interesting questions indeed and here is my take on it.
With the emergence of ever more sophisticated artificial intelligence and our digital economy demanding tech literacy at a much higher level to succeed in business, the roles are certainly shifting, also at C-suite level.
Hence these are my top 3 roles:
1) CTO's
Key competencies:
- advising leadership on all things IT & digital
- insight into SaaS and deployment
- infrastructure and data management/analytics/Big Data
- AI skills
- Agile
2) L&D leaders
- Emotional Intelligence
- Digitally savvy
- Personalised Learning & Measuring impact
- Strategy: Alignment with business goals
- More agile culture
- Change agents (Change Management)
3) HR
- Tech&digital literacy
- Pro-active talent management
- Synergistic, agile workflow skills
- Drivers of ethics / workplace culture for better talent acquisition
That about summarises it.
Not sure if you heard of the Six-Box Model (Marvin Weisbord) see image attached.
Hope this helps.
Good luck and fingers crossed here🤞🏼
Best wishes,
Iris
Hi Iris,
Many thanks for your response, which I found to be of an intereting read and appreciate your comment and take on it. I've not come across the Six-Box Model (Marvin Weisbord), but will certainly look this up.
