Replay of the webinar hosted by the CIPD on July 14, 2016, “Perspectives on Brexit, Strategic Considerations and Planning”, bringing together a panel of industry experts to discuss medium-term strategic and planning considerations following the EU referendum. The panel provided their experience and insight on:

• the implications of Brexit for strategic workforce planning
• building resilience and agility in a context of uncertainty
• the role of leadership in preparing for and driving change
• the opportunities for HR and organisations in the changing landscape of work.

Worth a listen as covers some interesting things that are very relevant for HR teams

  • Thanks Mike great post we have been talking about the implications of Brexit in our workshops now and now it is a reality it is raising all sorts of questions.  One of the biggest concerns for HR seems to be around what reassurances can be provided to EU workers currently working in the UK.  At one recent workshop one learner sgared that in her business which was agricultural nearly 90% of the workforce was from the EU so what are the resourcing implications for this?

We have also been speculating in the Employment Law workshops on what Brexit means for employment legislation favourties in terms of legislation which may no longer apply range from the Agency Workers Directive, recent case law around working time and calculation of holiday pay and also changes to the Working Time Regulations in terms of max weekly working time and breaks.

In our employee relations workshops we have also been exploring what this means for TUs in terms of the potential weakening of some aspects of legislation and what a Conservative government may choose to look at first!

    Never a dull moment!

  • Great share Mike. I've not yet listened to the full video, but it's comforting to see the topics you list being featured. The 'role of leadership in preparing and driving change' and 'building resilience and agility' stood out for me.  These are critical I believe. The nation for whatever the reason of individual voters, has selected the most challenging and disruptive route. Change is ahead. I can already see people progressing through a transition curve at different rates. There are certain cases I've heard of where those in HR or senior positions are lagging behind in this process more than those they are supposed to be leading and influencing.

The other key area I think that will be important to HR, Leadership and beyond is the conflict that could occur between individuals and possibly groups of individuals. Whatever the outcome of the EU Referendum, these differences I think were always going to occur. The nation is clearly divided. The stats tell us that for every one person who thinks on one side of 'the fence' there is someone else that thinks on the other. But is there really a fence? This vote doesn't seem to be as clear cut as a yes or a no as people first thought. Even within the yes and no 'camps' there are people that don't agree with some of the views of the people on their own 'side' as well as those on the other. I wonder how much this conflict could spill over into relationships at work now and in the future.

The areas of focus you listed have never been so important.
