Last week we were discussing HR and ethics in one of my Level 5 groups, and one participant spoke about some of the interesting questions which were raised in the Podcast below. We had an interesting debate around the role of HR in business ethics and the impact HR may or may not have.
I was reminded of this this morning when on the radio there was a debate about whether the large fines which some organisations have received from their regulator impact the business or ultimately the consumer i.e. do they result in a change in behaviour.
The discussion was around Tesco, Thames Water and Volkswagen and a bank. It was interesting that the discussion concluded that two key things were to blame culture and lack of capability in senior managers who made poor business decisions. It was interesting that they discussed the reputational aspect in so much a brand can take years to build and minutes to destroy (using Volkswagen as an example of this) in terms of the trust with its customer/
The podcast below provides some good insight especially for the ethics question in both CHR (Level 5) assignment and also HRF (Level 5).
