Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any experience in writing speculative applications?
I am particularly interested and keen to understand how successful speculative letters/applications are? What should and shouldn't go into the letter and any tips you may have as recruiting managers?
Any help, templates or links on the subject would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Justin.

Hi Justin
I can't comment on how successful speculative applications are however I can say I have had success with speculative recommendations. So for example I have recommended a friend who I rate to people who I know who are recruiting HR professionals sometimes this has meant they have 'skipped' the shortlist stage but they have still gone through the interview process with other applicants, so have been appointed (or not) on merit.
Hope this makes sense.

Sarah
Thanks, Sarah. I am mentoring a recent graduate at the moment and I'm encouraging him to send off some speculative letters to some key organisations within his industry. I have found a few resources since which have some recommendations which have been helpful. Interestingly, I have sent some speculative recommendations to some of my historical contacts (who have links to the industry) this weekend and I have had a great response from them. So together with your shared experience it has been really encouraging! Thanks again.
I am so pleased it was helpful Justin I am a big believer in what goes around comes around and always remember the time when others went out of their way to help me out and get a foot on the HR career ladder. I am a big fan of now helping others do the same where I can. Glad to hear it worked out ;-)
