Hi all
The supermarket equal value pay claims rumble on and the case of the Asda employees is now heading to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court will consider whether shop floor workers at Asda can be compared to workers in the distribution centre for the purposes of equal pay, in one of the UK’s biggest equal pay cases.
In January the Court of Appeal ruled that the roles of shop workers could be compared to those of warehouse staff, upholding rulings made by an employment tribunal in 2016 and the Employment Appeal Tribunal in 2017.

The Supreme Court’s decision to hear the supermarket’s latest appeal gives Asda one final chance to prove that the roles are not comparable.

It will be interesting to see where this ends up given the number of other cases pending.
All the best

Yes, it will be interesting- certainly it is pretty complex from my understanding and will have an impact on the wider equality debate, I think. As a working woman struggling to find suitable part-time work I am really interested in the indirect discriminatory practices and norms that have developed.
I'd be interested to know if anyone on these fora has an opinion on this or similar cases.
