Hi All
One of my Managers approached me today saying after 4 months of reviews she isn't getting anywhere with her newest member and wants to let her go.
She is in tomorrow and my Manager wants to do it as soon as she comes in which I am ok doing just wanted to know how you would all go about this, get so nervous everytime I have to do things like this!!
Thanks
Rachel

Been through it too many times, ask them how they think they are doing and so on and stuff, then tell them that the job isn't right for them as they fail to active what company is striving for and just tell that person that they didn't pass, I'm guessing its the same apprentice that you talked about prior.
Regards and best of luck in the situation
Hi Rachel
I agree with Steve, the member of staff is likely to have a good idea of the news she is about to receive. I assume you will have a letter ready confirming the termination of employment, whether they will be required to work notice, annual leave etc.

Hi Rachel,
I'm guessing that if there are 4 months of unsatisfactory reviews and they have all been recorded, then the member of staff should have a pretty good idea of what is coming her way - particularly as she is still in probation stage.
Can I ask though - are you expected to be the one breaking the news to her? I would suggest that it should be the manager, supported by you as a third party to ensure that correct procedure is followed.
Hope it all goes well, I'm sure you will be fine - you have all the skills anyone would ever need to be able to carry out this role efficiently and with empathy.
Steve
Thanks Steve, yes we have all the previous reviews.
I'm not breaking the news no, just as a support and Manager is doing it. I am guessing as soon as she sees me in the room she'll know anyway - hate this part of the job!

Hope all went well Rachel.
I've got a similar situation coming up tomorrow, sitting in with a Manager who is breaking news to a colleague that his post is under threat of redundancy. Never easy, and what makes it worse is that I worked alongside him for the last 7 years before taking up my current post.
