Coaching

I'm part of a team of experienced L&D practioners who are focusing on raising the bar when it comes to our coaching skills.

Has anyone got any useful resources on coaching or any interesting and fun ways of practising coaching that we can do in our next team meeting?

Would be great to get your ideas...

  • Hi Emma

I have loads of practical resources, this may be a bit late but feel free to email me hayley.brown@avon.com if you're still looking and I'll send the zip over.

  • Hi Emma

My Colleague Jackie Le Fevre has created a tool called the Braveometer which helps people identify areas where they feel brave and areas in which they wish they were braver it is free to use and you can find it at www.braverthanyouthink.co.uk

    • Hi Emma,

I thought it might be worth posting this blog from our very own facilitator Phil Willcox. Phil does a fab job in posing some great questions to consider following a coaching session and is an excellent piece to share across your team. He also wins the title for the most imaginative blog title ;-)

  • Hi Emma

If any of them are not sure of the benefits of coaching - this exercise is a great one. It is for a group of people with someone leading. It uses the GROW model but only the leader speaks - the group answers the questions by writing the answers on a piece of paper. It is called Silent coaching.

    Hope it helps

  • Hi Emma,

You could use the attached document - Personal Drivers Questionnaire (PDQ) as an activity in a coaching setting with other coaches. I would suggest you ask participants to complete the PDQ prior to the team meeting and then people can co-coach one another on what helps and hinders them (from their results) and how they impact others with their own PD's. I'd say it's quite a safe tool to use with close colleagues as it's not getting into the too deep and meaningful area - which can be an issue with co-coaching colleagues. It's a very useful self-awareness activity and is often used in coaching.

    • Thanks Zoe, I had heard of these types of behaviour before and wondered how you would actually work out which one you were.
Thanks again, I will definitely share this with my team.
      • Pleasure to be of assistance, do let us know how it goes.

  • Here is another good resource that you and the team might find useful Emma

    • Thanks for this Mike, I have sent the link to my colleagues.
  • Hi Emma,

Great topic that I'm sure will interest and benefit others. My friend David Goddin @changecontinuum on Twitter (strongly recommend you follow him) has just started a series of guest blogs on the subject of coaching that you and your team will benefit from I'm sure. His website is called People Performance Potential and the series started earlier this week.

Check them out and keep following and let me know if this helps :)
