Hi all,

We are looking at how we can conduct our GDPR introduction training to new employees and make it more engaging.

We have a lot of documentation for new starters to review and sign, so we would like to make the whole introduction easier to take in on their first day.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

Thank you

Hannah

  • Hi Hannah

This is a common challenge when material is 'dry' and we wish to make it stick and easily digested without losing the important points, here's a couple of things that might be appropriate to your timings and the way you want to engage.

Perhaps take eack key touchpoint of the document, almost like a quick jounrey, and make it  come alive - either signpost it spatially on the floor or the wall, give each piece a title / personality and then briefly weave a metaphor or story, you may have heard of the great 'toy-sharing' analogy to explain GDPR to a 5yr old (or even consider song-movie titles if you want to have some fun).

An even better way would be if you get the group to create their own meaning by asking them to make it come alive in their own way - another simpler way is by cutting the document into pieces (think of a puzzle type activity) and they need to assemble each piece and in doing so they'll discuss and debate which piece belong to which point.

Hope this is useful somehow - enjoy!

  • Hey Hannah,

This sounds like a great project. Anything involving anything being more engaging is usually interesting!

How is this learning addressed right now? Face to face? Online? Is it 'learning' or just docs to read? How does it work?

    • Hi Ady,

When the GDPR came into place, our company DPO ran a face-to-face intro session with exisiting employees then a more lengthy session a couple of weeks later, again face-to-face which included employees having to read a large document on the new regulation prior to the training session.

We are now looking at implementing a powerpoint presentation on an overview of GDPR and what it means for all new starters along with a short quiz at the end of the session. Then a couple of documents to take away with them to review and sign in their own time.

      • Great thanks Hannah. That's really helpful. Do you think the Powerpoint presentation will be delivered in person in the induction? Or have you other thoughts?
