Learning today, learning tomorrow

Deloitte has just released its Global Human Capital Trends 2016 report. The report is based on a survey of 7,000 HR and business leaders and provides a list of HR trends. Learning is high on the list and in the section analysing the survey results is an interesting table that shows how learning today stacks up against learning tomorrow. What do you think, have they got it right?

  • I really like this Martin and serves to highlight not the changing role of L&D but the changing nature of the consumer and the way the internet is being used. As a result of this the way employees i.e the consumer, want to access content is changing, the way content can be distributing and shared is changing so L&D find themselves in a very different place. Providing we are seeing this now and working out what roles are needed to transition to 'tomorrow' and how we continue to drive value and support learning/performance in different ways then I say roll on 'tomorrow'.

What do you think Martin as a well known 'curator' in L&D do you see tomorrow as a reality?

What bits are missing or not quite on the money Michelle - keen to get your view :)

    • Hi Mike

Tomorrow is already happening - take Khan Academy and MOOCs for example. I think a lot of what is in the tomorrow column describes a shift to learner-centric learning. Learners are doing this now. That doesn't mean to say there isn't scope for employees to be better learners though. I think the tomorrow column is more challenging for organisations and L&D though as it outlines a different skillset and mindset, one driven by employees. If employees know what they need to do their jobs better then surely  organisations must listen and provide the help and support they need? Doing this can start today!

  • Makes for very interesting reading. Not sure they've nailed it, but it raises a conversation.
    • What would you add/edit/remove, Michelle?
