A quick question for you....

I've found the DPG Community useful in many ways particularly through my studies. But even hanging around here beyond, I'm finding it a great resource.

But before I share with you what I think, I'm wondering what your thoughts are.  So here's my question.

"What tips would you give someone new on making the most of the DPG Community?"

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks loads

Ady

  • Hi everyone,

Similar to the comments below i'd say try to participate in the discussions - we all have something to contribute and learn from each other.

I must admit even though I have been commenting I have just started my first discussion/post today and was feeling a tad nervous before posting it!

There's so much on here it's a great resource!

  • Hi Ady

I have been on the community now for around 18th months. I didn't really use it much when I was doing my level 3 course, but now I'm doing my level 5, I have found it a great source of knowledge and a wonderful place to ask for advice and for people to share their experiences with you.

I am the sole worker in HR within my organisation and so to have somewhere I can freely speak with people of my own profession is invaluable.

  • My tip would be to get involved in the discussions and blogs. You get some really good ideas and suggestions back that can be applicable to what is happening in your working life.

Also, one thing I have learnt which I would suggest as a tip would be - Don't be scared to get involved, thinking your comments wouldn't be valuable - they are!

I'm studying Level 7 at the moment, and I try to go on the Community everyday. I am always amazed that I can be reading about a topic within my studies, and then log onto the community and low and behold, the same topic is being discussed! Its great.

  • My top tip would be to use the search facility to find blogs etc on topics that you have an interest in. (just type in a key word)

There is loads on here but it's not always easy to find it all straight away.

If I have a few minutes spare at work I pop on and find myself a presentation or video to look at from the community main hub front page, which is usually something up to date and always interesting - as curated by Deb and Mike usually.

    :)

    • Thanks, Alison. I've also started using hastags for my important posts so I can find them again quickly.

      • Do hash tags work on all forums? (fora?)

I have never used them here, but it's a good shout, thank you. I'll give it a go!

        #hashtag :)

        • In some posts you can add tags at the bottom.

If you can't see that facility then add them into the text as you just did (but you might want to

make them more specific to you and the subject #LPC #Alison )

          • I haven't got the "add tag" facility here. I just tried to search for the #hashtag and it didn't pick up my entry above so I suspect the hand added ones aren't recognised here. (or maybe it's just an operator error!)

            • It probably has to be indexed by the software first - you can try again tomorrow.

In the meantime, search for #Les (my first test sample related to one of Ady's posts on EN)

              • Thank you Les, I'm pleased I looked there as the EN thread has moved on a lot since I was last on it! It was very useful, haha!
