Hi everyone,

We learn new things everyday, we experience different things everyday, some good, some bad. It's these experiences that help shape our thinking, actions and the way we react and deal with things in the future.

We learn. Everyday. From doing day to day things and embracing new challenges, new situations and activities. Continuous Professional Development is all around us.......As part of your CIPD qualifications you need to demonstrate and record CPD. We've explored CPD here, here and here.

This time we're raising the bar and have a new challenge around CPD and attending a CIPD Branch Event for everyone on the DPG Community.

Want to know what a Branch Event is all about - then watch the below Google Hangout

Jill Tansey has also created a fab "How to Guide" on how to find your local branch and what's happening in your area. Take a look at the attachment below

So what's the challenge?

The challenge is simple - attend a Branch Event and blog about your experience
We have created two new badges called Branch Explorer and Branch Blogger so as well as personal development you'll also be recognised across the community as helping and sharing with others.

As well as receiving a badge and CPD evidence we'll also sweeten the deal and for anyone who meets either challenge we'll send you out an exclusive DPG mug with accompanying spoon.

These are coveted and exclusive so don't miss out and accept the challenge today.

So will be first to don the badge and drink from the best mug in the world?

Over to you......

  • Woo Hoo here too !!!

Never knew branches existed (apart from trees and rivers !!)

Signed up for a Merseyside, N. Cheshire, N. Wales Branch event - "How to be usefully curious"

    Next week on 28th May

    Can't wait

  • ..and t'other side :)
    • Both sides really suit you Alison - looking good!

      • That made me smile Mike, thank you :)

Tonight I attended the Gloucestershire branch Coaching network meeting, The title of which was "Asking great questions" which rather undersold the content of the presentation.

I intend to write a blog about this in order to meet the other challenge that you set Mike and hopefully earn my Branch Blogger badge. Keep your eye out for it!
  • Having enjoyed one local event i am now booked onto 2 more, and looking forward to them.
I usually dread "networking" events so I was wondering to myself what was different about this one. I took a friend with me which helped as he was new too. We were met by the lovely organisers who made us feel very welcome by talking to us for quite a while, which was really kind.
In the session we were put on tables in smaller groups to work, so we could get to know a subset of people in the group. We then were moved about as the whole group got to know each other better. It was fun and no- one was left out.
It was packed with various activities and the time flew by. A credit to the organisers for sure.
    • The dreaded selfie - one side of mug.
  • Didnt realise only one photo would load up - heres another!
  • At last here are my pictures of my lovely DPG mug. It is lovely to drink from. Very smooth with its enamel lining. The spoon is brilliant for scooping the froth off a cappucino.

When it arrived it was handed to me by the postman and I thought xmas had arrived - you'll see why when you open the photo - thanks Debs, brilliant idea - made my day!
  • It's time for me to share the experience I had by attending one of the events organised by CIPD West of Scotland Branch.

The workshop "Motivating and Engaging Your People at Work" was hold by Tree of Knowledge - people development company. They can be found at: http://treeof.com/

    What I enjoyed most:

    • no Power Point presentation; Gavin, the speaker, used instead the traditional method of talking to the participants in a funny, positive and informed way
    • there were a couple of games for the participants aimed to make us see how important teamwork is and how people naturally select their place in a team, who takes the lead in the team, who encourage the team members, how cooperation and sharing make most of a team work
    • the idea that we should have  fun at work (It's hard to be creative unless you are really enjoying what you are doing) I totally agree with that :) and employers should take this seriously into consideration if they really want their people engaged and motivated as we spent so many hours per day at work

The only observation: the workshop should have engaged the participants not only by games but also by generating an exchange of ideas and experiences in order to make the most of bringing more people together.

I would definitely go again (as long as I can)  for another workshop/event organised by CIPD West of Scotland Branch.

Until then, I wish you all to enjoy these events!

  • These are great news as I already attended a CIPD Branch Event and it was very exciting for me to be there.

The only thing with these events (and I am saying it with some regret) is that you can not attend most of them, at least this is my case due to my current personal situation. Even if I find many of them very interesting I can not attend. In my opinion, what could be really useful and attractive for all the community members would be the possibility to attend them or at least some of them online (the same rule like the webinars: you can attend them and can get involved wherever you are, which is absolutely fantastic), even if you would pay a charge for that.

In the end this is the purpose of learning: to be able to spread the knowledge as wide and as much as you can by making it as accessible as possible.

    It is just a thought.
