Hi all

Following on from my first North East branch Student Rep meeting last month I have some questions that would be great to get your feedback on (you can respond to some or all of them).

General

  • What do you know about the branch and committee?
  • What is the purpose of the branch and committee?
  • How do you view the services provided by the branch and committee?
  • What - if any - social media channels do you use to keep abreast of CIPD regional (or national) activity?

CIPD events

  • How active are you currently in branch events and activities?
  • What is your preference on venue locations and event timings?
  • What activities/events would you like to see introduced?

Employability*

  • How can the branch and committee support recent you to remain in your branch area?
  • What could we be doing differently to support you in establishing links and roles in the branch area?
  • What could we do to improve the transition from academia to the workplace for you?
  • How can we support you in exploring work experience opportunities and creating connections for placements / internships?
  • How can we support you with projects / dissertation work and build relationships with employers for you  to conduct their research?

*these questions are particularly - but not exclusively - relevant to undergraduates.

If you have any comments or suggestions that'd be great :)

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Jill

  • Hi Jillian.

Just watched/listened to your google "hang" on CIPD local groups. (well some of it anyway - I had it on whilst I was doing other things. It was a bit longer than I expected it to be.) It made me laugh. There was so much for you all to talk about.

I didn't have any info on my local CIPD group and have been struggling with CIPD website, so couldn't contribute anything useful to your discussion above, which is why I didn't reply. I'll let you know when I know!

( I can't access any of the CIPD member areas, as none of my details work in the system. Heyho.)

I am really lucky though as, having listened to your chat, I checked the local branch events and now I'm going to the launch of the local SIG in L&D next week, so I am very pleased. Hurrah!

I'll let you know how it goes.

I hope lots of people now get involved in their local group having seen your "hang" (I've never heard of a hang before I came onto DPG.) I'm guessing that "local" is not in fact very local for lots of members, which can make the logistics a bit tricky. I don't know where I am going on Tuesday or how long it will take me to find it! (dread to think).

    Alison :)

    • I'm really pleased you listened to some of the hangout and that you've since checked out your local branch & signed up to an event! Good work :)

Yeah I think logistics can be difficult for some people depending on where they live & work. That's something we've been thinking about & might be looking into do some virtual events like the hangout to cater for that sort of issue for members.

      Hope you enjoy Tuesday!
