Hi all
So my background in Child Protection Social Work but i am currently in a HR Transition Admin role. I have had years of experience of managing complex issues, working closely with in/external people and i really want to make sure i follow a HR path that i could consider myself doing for a very long time.
I do love the talking to people, solution based focus mindset and the challenges with it (Generalist HR) but i really love the learning and development HR aspect.
Is there anyone here who has both L&D and general HR experience or any views on which path to take please? The aim is to go to a HR advisor role next year, so would love some information to make a firm decision.
Thank you
Kiran

Hi Kiran
My background is in L&D but I hold the Level 7 CIPD qualification in HR. I'm not sure if that helps, but I've got experience of both and enjoy where my career is.
Generalist roles are out there. Once you get that Level 5 qualification (which I am 100% certain you will achieve!), I'd suggest aiming for HR Manager roles and aim at some kind of HR Business Partner role in the future.
Is that the kind of thing you are thinking about?
:)
Hi Gary
Firstly wow at the level 7 but also you can tell you have experience in both :). I deleted my initial response as it was based on a rubbish few days ha.
You've given me food for thought regarding which sectors in HR I should consider and thank you for that. I had spent the last 4ish years in social work as a manager and genuinely I have no desire to go back to managing others ..but watch this space. Will most likely stick with general as recruitment alone wouldn't be exciting enough for me and payroll (oh gosh, I would be rubbish).
Have a lovely evening 😊
