10 Things Ive learnt since leaving the Army...

  • Most civilians are hardworking, professional and conscientious.
  • Whoever told me they aren’t are both deluded and a liar!
  • I actually enjoy the commute – it gives me time to switch from work mode to home mode.
  • Having less money doesn’t mean you have a rubbish life, it just means you appreciate things more.
  • Driving within the speed limits is more fuel economic and will save you money in the long run.
  • The gym is enjoyable when someone isn’t screaming in your face telling you how rubbish you are.
  • It’s ok to be professionally ambitious.
  • Real Managers don’t encourage you to go out and get drunk on a week night – its not acceptable.
  • It takes ages to get a Doctor’s appointment.
  • It’s amazing to go to bed and wake up with your most precious loved one every day.

  • One more - relevant to the PTI staff in the Gym.. I'd love to have had the bottle to reply back to them with this line!

Pain is not weakness leaving the body, it's just pain.

  • I have to say that work wear is perhaps where I do stand out from my work colleagues. I polish my shoes/boots every day (not bulled I might add) enough to have earned the title of 'shiny booted one' by my trainees.

I did once 'borrow' a pair of boots that a colleague had left at their desk covered in mud for a week - and returned them very highly polished (parade bulled) for them to wear at a staff meeting to demonstrate how I expected them to look after their boots in the future! No, that didn't last!

  • Steve, these 2 made me chuckle - I strangely don't miss the 'Sporty' and I've had some work wear revelations recently....a skirt one week and then the next week, a high heel! One day I might go crazy and wear a skirt and a heel TOGETHER!! The possibilities are endless....Lol  :D

  • Some great points there Lucy.  Two more for the list:

    • Deciding what to wear to work each day is not as easy as it I thought it would be!
    • Wednesday afternoons can be a productive part of the week.
