Are you a great mentee?

Are you a great mentee?

I have found great value during my career from having a mentor at different stages of my development.  I have also had the opportunity to mentor others and watch them grow and develop.

Any training, advice, blogs we generally see focus on the Mentor and how they can be ‘great’.

It was refreshing to see an article this week by Forbes about how to be a great mentee.

There are 3 useful key points in the article:

  1. Take action – this is about taking time to put the new skills you’ve worked on with your mentor into practice.

  1. Ask questions – Be hungry to learn, improve and grow.

  1. Don’t be afraid to disagree – Have an open and honest relationship with your mentor it will lead to a discussion with much more value.

  1. Be open to feedback – Be open to being coached and receptive to the things your mentor tells you

I have attached the link to the full article below….

Mentoring is a two-way relationship and therefore needs both parties to be fully committed to get the best results.

If you are currently being mentored, ask yourself the question – are you a great mentee or could you put more into the mentoring relationship?
