I hosted my first DPG community Chat this week on Training Delivery and at first , as there was only one active participant, Selina. I thought it would be a brief chat, but......hey, the hour past so quickly and we were both amazed when it was time to sign off .
The issues Selina raised may be of use to others of you who have to design or run training sessions for groups of acknowledged experts?
How do you run update sessions for experts in a field without risking defensiveness from those who may be protective of their ‘professionalism’. What if the group is of mixed ability/knowledge?
We talked about small group work to help the knowledgeable use their knowledge to bring the less knowledgeable up to speed.
18 is a good size for a group: 9 pairs , 6x3’s, 3x6’s, 2x 9’s.
We also talked briefly about inductive and deductive learning (discovery and telling).
We also mentioned some initial knowledge/needs check at the start of an event , not just to analyse needs but to get a flavour of awareness levels and process issues.
Yes, I was nervous hosting my first Community Chat , but thanks to Salina's interesting questions and willingness to respond to and develop the issues, I needn't have been.
