Level 3 and beyond...

I have just attended my penultimate workshop for CIPD Level 3 in HR Practice.  I have enjoyed it so much and cannot believe my final course for Level 3 is in just 3 short weeks on the 22nd.  I have learnt so much and really gained a new perspective on the workplace and my colleagues.

The one thing I am taking away with me is the need for continuous learning and development, this seems to be the key for a successful career in HR.  I fully intend to sign up for Level 5 through DPG in Spring.  Interestingly when I first started this course, in my CPD plan I insisted I would continue without a break into level 5.  However, I now feel it is very important that I have an opportunity to use what I have learnt in my course in my work place and really embed all that new knowledge that has been gained.

I am still in the process of getting my new sparkly computerised HR system in place through Moorepay.  I have just signed a CVA allowing them to scan all our paper files and to upload them on to our new system.  They are a good company to work with, however, you do need to stay on top of them, or deadlines may slip.  Its the completer finisher in me:).

This leads onto the fact that as part of the year end meeting I arranged for my colleagues last week.  I had a team building event around the Belbin Team Working questionnaire.  This was fantastic, I found out that I am mainly a co-ordinator with a good dash of shaper and a strong completer finisher.  Although this didn't really surprise me, what did was the potential weaknesses I had by being all of those things and how I could perhaps over come them.  Its great to have the tools to see how others may perceive you and turn them back into strengths.

Our company had a good mix of different Belbin types which I felt was encouraging for the future.  All the colleagues that participated (19) had great feedback and were really enthused by the results.  This may be something I take forward into our recruitment process for senior team members.

That's it for now.  However, the DPG community has been great and I will still continue to use in my gap few months before level 5 beckons.
