My Journey

For anyone who is embarking on a new adventure in the Autumn:

This time last year I was really proud of myself for sticking my neck out and saying to my director I deserve a qualification to justify the HR knowledge I own in my own department.

No argument there - he waved a magic wand and I was waiting to start the Autumn level 3 in Warrington

Not so cocky now ...... I started worrying about the amount of years it had been since I was last at school, fitting into a new group, managing work loads of my existing stressful job and course work and a million other things that were taking me out of my comfort zone.!

Our facilitator Fiona met 6 very quiet very wary students and we did the ice breaker and there was polite chit chat but still we all looked like rabbits in headlights and then we hit the HR Map.

It is mind blowing but it is also the day that you become friends with your group and appreciate your facilitator, we varied between hysteria and losing the will to live, but along the way we laughed and started sharing experiences.

The HR map although not exactly my friend, is now something that I am not frightened of any more - it greets you at the end of your journey as well as the beginning when you are proudly applying for your upgrade membership and is the core throughout the journey.

Fiona was a trooper and never gave up on any of us, she herded us back on track when we got unruly and laughed with us over our monthly drama, she was always a phone call a way when you hit that HUGE pack half way through and returns your call or email same day to make sure you keep on track and stay motivated.

I met 6 lovely people from so many varied walks of life but I enjoyed every workshop and learnt new things each month, the patience that Fiona showed was a credit to her as we did get a bit giddy but over all the experience was a good one I have even learnt to blog and had great support from Mike and the team on the DPG Community.  Use and abuse them all they are all really friendly and very supporting.

I am back this Autumn with Level 5 which is intimidating all over again but its worth it - good luck everyone!
