CIPD Code of Professional Conduct

Just working through the participant pack for HRD Level 5 course and have reviewed the CIPD Code of Professional Conduct.  This shows what is required from HR/HRD Professionals in exchange for our CIPD accreditation and membership.

I've summarised this below and there is a link to the full code of conduct at the bottom of this blog.

It all seems fairly reasonable to me.  Why would any honest hard working HR/HRD professional think any different!

  • Professional Competence and Behaviour – e.g. maintaining professional knowledge and competence, ensuring an up-to-date and insightful service is provided.  Accepting responsibility for own professional actions and decisions.  Seeking appropriate support if business needs require in new areas of activity.

  • Representative of the profession – e.g. acting in a way which supports and upholds the reputation as a profession, complying with law (especially employment law), exhibiting personal leadership as a role model

  • Ethical standards and integrity – e.g. maintain relationships based on confidence, trust and respect.       Exhibit professional and personal integrity and honesty at all times, advance business practices that promote equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion.

  • Stewardship – e.g. Demonstrate and promote fair and reasonable standards in the treatment of people, challenge others where they suspect unlawful or unethical conduct or behaviour, promote appropriate people management and development practices.
