The L&D Forum

With the CIPD Conference entitled 'Shaping the Future of Work' we thought it only right that we catch up with Andy Lancaster who is Head of CIPD Training to get his thoughts on the future of work and the role of L&D in this future.

Andy highlights some key trends and themes that L&D need to be aware of, not only be aware of but be making the most of the opportunities and supporting with some of the challenges these changes will bring.

Any thoughts on what Andy is saying? Let us know in comments below

  • I'm glad he says it is not 'new news' that L&D has to be aligned with the business!

It's a useful and quick summary of what I would imagine were common themes at the conference: He considers 5 areas of skill: Consulting skills that are required now for in-house L&D professionals rather than external people; "curating content" from a range of sources including the internet; linking learners together which he dubs "community curation"; interpreting and applying big data; and improving our digital creation (and curation) skills.

  • No shot of his footwear? :-(      #dissapointed #epicfail #drmartens #notasuitandtieHRguy

Agreed ; when people talk about digital employee shift though they continue to portray it as a massive challenge for HR and OD to manage ....when in reality a significant majority of employees around them already have their own digital devices on their desks (or at home) and possess digital skills and tech that probably surpasses what the business actually has on site...I would personally suggest that we look inwardly to harness and embrace the knowledge and skills that are already under our noses first before creating yet another mountain. #failfastandmoveon

    • Sadly not - they were too bright for camera. Hope you're well Jason.
