HR and Learning and Development software

Hi all,I work in the learning and development department at a college and we do not currently have HR/L&D software. I'm having to record all staff training and appraisals on a spreadsheet.I'm going to the HR software show at London, Olympia tomorrow.I just wanted to know what kind of software you all use? It can be quite overwhelming going to some of these shows with everyone trying to tell you that they sell the best product!!What I want to know is, do you use a software for recording all learning and development in your organisation, can it link up with staff objectives etc. and if you could recommend one?Any help would really be great! Thanks!!

  • Hi Toni,

Looks like Alison has given you some good food for thought. There has also been some other discussions regarding HR software that might be worth reading and you can find the links below.

  • The system we used in our last place was called "myLearning". It was an excellent system, especially designed for managers to use easily. It was a global system as the company was a global pharmaceutical company. It had the facility for learning to be assigned from HO and also locally by specially trained system administrators.

We could assign learning to any staff and it would be put into their "learning plan" complete with refresher requirement which would then automatically activate when the time came. Managers could interrogate the system to see what training was required by their staff in the next wee. 2 weeks, month (any time period to suit themsleves.) They could e mail their staff from within the system. They could book staff onto scheduled courses. The scheduling system was very intelligent. e learning was also hosted through the system. There was a searchable library catalogue and staff could look at the details of available courses, including the learning objectives, and assign themselves any training they wanted to do, whether e learning or instructor led training.

They could sign off any "read and understand" requirements themselves and we would sign off any competency assessed work once we had the evidence. Anything signed off would move from their Learning Plan into their Learning History, which was a record of all their competencies.

The system was huge and very powerful. The above only touches upon its functionality.

On the downside, to set up the system for our site of 500 staff was a 6 month project in itself!

We have been divested by that company and now we are using excel spreadsheets and a small database to manage and record our training. I am going to have to put a business plan together identifying a new system that I would like to use in future, so I'm in the same boat as you now Toni, so it would be great if you'd let me know what you find out when you go to the show! :)
