Although a lot of uncertainty remains, the dust is settling after the UK’s decision to leave the EU. Whatever the process from here on in, it will be marked by uncertainty because until it happens (whenever that might be) the business climate and economy will remain in a post-Brexit vacuum.
A recent piece of research carried out by the CIPD shines a light on how employees are currently feeling post-Brexit. The findings show that employers have some challenges around building morale and confidence that jobs will be safe. Months, or even years, of insecurity will have a negative effect on any organisation. This is something that will need to be attended to as a priority.
Interestingly, 21% of respondents to the survey said they want to update their skills . This is linked to concerns about the future of their roles.
Brexit is just one of many drivers of change that are being felt by organisations. The question is: what role does L&D have in supporting the organisation and employees during these times?
My feeling is the learning frame is a very powerful one - learning helps individuals develop themselves which will can help make them feel more confident about their future. Learning is also at the heart of organisations who want to successfully ride the forces of change. Woven into this is the issue of talent development. How do you develop and retain the skills you need in uncertain times?
I’m posing lots of questions . . . does this chime for you right now?
