Hi all,
I am part of a HR project group tasked with creating a new internal intranet page. Looking for some ideas, and was wondering what does everyone like/dislike about their internal HR sites, what features are popular or what do you wish yours had?
Thanks
Rachel

Hi Rachel,
I think an intranet is an invaluable tool for new starters. Instead of handing out huge amounts of materials at induction or overloading new starters at their 1st day of employment you can add links to vital information, useful tips or even videos etc on a media that can be accessed in a more timely manner. I am looking to create an onboarding page for HR which I think will be really useful to assimilate new starters a little quicker.
Good luck!

Hi Rachel,
I've been part of an Intranet team responsible for the HR Intranet sites included a complete design and transition to new platform.
Do you have anything in place now?
Can you get any analytics from the site around how and why people go there?
Can you find out the most searched for things on your existing site - it can be quite interesting.
Look externally to what sites you use and enjoy using - why do you enjoy them - they look good, they are easy to use and intuitive. They also have the information you need.
These guiding principles should be used to think about your new intranet site :)
It is platform dependent but do you want people to hit the site because they need something or because they want to because the content is of interest, Is there any way to get two way communication going through blogs and discussion forums, surveys, engagement initiatives or just latest news or is this going to be a site where people come to find out about a process or a policy.
Plenty of options and of course have you asked your staff what THEY want from a HR intranet site?
Hope this helps in some way :)
Mike

Sounds like a great project to be working on all the roles which I've had have utilised intranet and one of the business I worked in also move towards what we called a HR self service model when managers could effectively manage actual tasks online.
And a really useful article which may help you with your project a bit dated but still useful I thought
