Hi all,
I am looking to conduct an HR audit on my company, a SME start up in the private education sector. I am new to this (and studying the level 5 HRM diploma), so was wondering if anyone had advice on the best way to go about this?
I would like to assess the different areas of HR in the company and their current effectiveness in order to devise an HR stategy with a clear improvement plan.
Thank you in advance for the advice!
Sophie :)

Hi Sophie
I undertake these for clients and when I produced mine it was a case of identifying the key areas and then considering all the aspects of legislation which they need to comply with. As you can imagine the audit is about compliance but we also include some areas for best practice. Also this depends on size of the organisation as there is some legislation which depends on the number of employees/size of resources e.g. ICE regulations, provision of training, Modern Slavery and Gender Pay Gap reporting.
When I wrote our audit I intiially consulted the internet to see what is out there headings within the audit include the following:
Legal entity
Employment Status e.g how the workforce is structures, part time and fixed term working
Apprentice arrangments
Contractual arrangements
Policies and procedures
Reward e.g. NMW/NLW
Equal pay
Pension arrangements
Data protection
Working time
Recruitment practices e.g right to work checks, DBS, joining arrangements
Training and development
Designated persons e.g who has specific responsibility for H&S and HR?
Employee relations e.g. ICE consultation
Performance management
Employee engagement
Sucession planning
I hope this helps - Good luck!
